Japan's northern island Hokkaido, is nature's paradise, used to the Ainu land. Sapporo attracts many winter visitors for the February Snow Festiva, when snow figures some famous constructions and cartoon characters.
Otaru is famous for Otaru Canal
reminds us the pioneer days, and for the 'Sushi Restaurant Street' offers us the freshest sushi in the world. The largest ski slopes in the area, the Niseko Hirafu Ski Resort, is situated not far from Otaru. Hakodate has Japan's best night landscapes from nearby mountain sticking to the sea.
Furano is famous for its beautiful lavender fields, which blooms in full color from June to July.
Mt. Taisetsu is the center of Hokkaido island surrounded by many hot-springs.

is an extensive national park with its beautiful lakes, such as Lake Mashu, Lake Akan and Lake Kussharo are spread around the outskirts of Kushiro.

JR石勝線は南千歳駅から日本三大車窓のひとつである狩勝峠を越えて新得駅へ抜ける132.4kmのルートです。北海道の屋根と言われる日高山脈を貫き、手付かずの自然が残る山奥へと入って行くのでトンネルの数は多いですが、間に垣間見れる樹海の景色には迫力があります。
JR函館本線の函館ー小樽間は、北海道の山岳自然風景を楽しみたい方にオススメです。函館を出発後、山深い峠を越えると大沼公園で、車窓からのぞむ大沼湖、駒ケ岳は絶景で、山腹の樹海を縫う曲線の線路が見事です。列車はまもなく内浦湾沿いの漁村を通り長万部に到着、ここからまたニセコの山々へ向かって走り、海が見えるともうすぐ小樽に到着です。
JR根室本線の釧路ー根室間は北海道らしい雄大な車窓が見れるこの路線のハイライトです。森や湿原、海岸、湖、岬、牧場風景など、様々な風景が展開します。またこの辺りでは歩きやすい線路の上をエゾシカが歩くことも多く、列車が来ても悠然としている姿も見れます。
